Prowling Enemies

Enemy Encounters

Prowling is teeming with a variety of enemies! Sometimes called bosses, there are over 200 different enemies to discover, fight, and defeat. Finding them won't be difficult.  Each time you prowl there's a chance you'll go toe-to-toe with any of them.

Each location has an equal amount of bosses, and each boss is permanently assigned to their area. This means if you remember the exact location of the boss you fought, you will eventually find them there again.

When you're about to encounter a boss during a prowl, you'll see an image warning you that "An Enemy Approaches".  Your next option will be to choose "Engage in Combat", and the boss fight will ensue. Alternatively you may cancel your prowl and avoid the fight.

Boss appearances will be in average frequency while prowling in Gathering, Mining, and Logging areas—and they will appear in higher frequency in City areas to aid in your discovery of hunting items.

Whether or not you can defeat them depends on your character's stats and the difficulty level of that boss. This is because each boss can arrive in a variety of classes, with certain classes being more difficult than others.

Boss Class & Difficulty

Each class of boss has its own base stats along with some extra scaling aspects based on your character's stats. Effectively this means that each class brings a level of difficulty that will feel unique to your character and provide you the necessary challenge to overcome them.

The best way to determine your path to victory to make note of the enemy's class. An enemy can appear in any of four classes. You could think of the word "class" as a short way to say "level of difficulty", as the class will determine how strong the boss is. Of course, the higher the class the better rewards you receive.

The class is always shown in the color of their name. The colors given to each boss are in tune with common RPG quality/class color systems to help identify boss difficulties at a glance.

Each boss screen displays the boss name in their class color. Take a look at the table below to get a picture of the difficulty scaling.

Boss Classes & Difficulty Scale
Class ColorClass LevelClass Difficulty
GrayFledglingEasy

Fledglings
are the lightest, weakest class of bosses and cannot heal themselves.

GreenAdeptMedium

Adepts are the stepping stone to harder bosses, and though they are strong for a medium class, they cannot heal themselves.

BlueNobleHard

Nobles are unlocked at level 90. They're strong foes and are a tough class. While their damage done is high, they cannot heal themselves.

PurpleChampionExtreme

Champions are unlocked at level 300. They're very strong and quite difficult to defeat. They have access to their own consumables and can self-heal during your battle, adding to their challenge.

Note that higher-difficulty classes may come in the future!

Fight Mechanics: The Basics
The goal is simple. The first to reach a health of zero determines the end of the fight. If the boss health reaches zero first, you win. If yours hits zero first, you've lost.

As such you and the boss each have a pool of health. Yours is determined normally, at the top of the info screen and based on your skill point allocations. The boss has a predetermined health amount based on its class and some basic scaling.

In order to begin this battle you'll have access to two very important buttons: Attack and Frenzy.

Example of Attack & Frenzy buttons

The Attack button

Tapping on Attack one time will spend [1] Rage point to attack the boss once. The boss will return attack simultaneously. The potency of their strikes depends on their class and your stats.

Attacks & Damage

So we know 1 Rage point equals 1 attack. But what does one attack equal against one's health? That's up to you and your stats, as well as the boss class. Still, you'll get an idea of the boss and your strength during the fight based on your damage output.

Each time you attack the boss you'll incur an amount of damage to their health. Each single point of damage you do is equal to a single point reduction to your enemy's health. So if, for example, your attack incurs 9 damage to the boss: you've reduced their health by 9 points. This is the same for when a boss returns attacks against you.

These damage numbers can be seen on the fight screen just below the Enemy health bar. Each time you attack, you'll see your damage output and the boss damage output. Meanwhile, your health and the boss health will also reduce.

The Frenzy button
Frenzy will simultaneously spend [5] Rage and [5] Energy. Consider this to be a super attack, and one you should plan carefully... because for each time you frenzy, the boss will simultaneously frenzy back. Your frenzy will incur five times your damage output and a boss' return frenzy will in turn incur five times their damage output. Depending on the class of boss and your own stats, a frenzy can make or break a battle!

Tip: It might be wise for a lower level player to avoid using Frenzy. Your Frenzy won't hit as hard as the boss Frenzy will! Do some leveling and experiment until you feel confident that using it won't get you obliterated!

It's also important to know that once you begin an Enemy Encounter, you are automatically hidden from Fight list for [1] minute. This should allow you time to fight your enemy. Your 1mn timer extends if your fight takes longer. So long as you're performing actions (attacks or frenzies), your 1mn timer will reset.

To prevent hiding: if you cease to perform actions on this page you will be reintroduced to the fight list as normal after your minute has expired. Note that other players may still take any action on you from your profile, even if you are hidden from the fight list.

Fight Mechanics: Consumable Items

As you can see, fighting a boss will require all of your typical vampire resources, including Rage, Energy, and Health. However, you will have tools at hand to aid you!

Your Consumable Items will be essential for keeping up in battle. The consumables available are the same as those listed on your Home > Items screen (or by gesture), now delivered to you in a simple section and meant to be used on the fly.

Depending on you and the boss, you could end up needing to use multiple consumables to defeat them.

Tip 1: Gestures have been disabled in prowling to prevent accidental cancels using the back gesture. As such, you won't be able to call up your usual menu.

To use a consumable during a fight, tap the consumable type you require and it will reveal your available consumable. Then use the Devour button. Your consumable will be instantly used.

In cases where you're having trouble defeating a boss easily, the best way to reduce the difficulty of a boss is simply by leveling up your vampire skills. That said, having enough Health consumables can certainly get you through a tough fight.

Tip 2: The Crypt sells various consumable item types. You'll want to be sure you've stocked up on your consumable goods before going into the fight, as leaving a fight will cancel your prowl.

Fight Mechanics: Victory or Failure

If you fail your boss battle, you'll be presented with a screen telling you that your path has ended. You'll also lose a small amount of experience points, which will be seen below the image. The amount of experience lost will be determined by the class of boss who defeated you.

If you succeed in defeating your enemy, you'll be presented with a victory screen. This screen will offer you "Claim" button. After pressing Claim, you'll be awarded with experience points and loot specific to your chosen area, and the chance to win the boss art to the boss you've defeated as your own personal avatar!

The amount of loot you'll gain is determined by the class of boss you've defeated as well as a bit of luck.  You can learn about the reward items and rates by visiting our Reward Sets & Rates article.
