Seasons Greetings to the Rising!
Today we're pleased to announce that on December 18, 2023 an update will bring two bits of newness to VDR that are sure to make the end of the year more exciting!
First up: the Crypt will be seeing an overhaul to its layout. Second: a new category of consumables will become available: Potions! Ready for a word-journey that will both enlighten and entertain? Let's do it!
The New Crypt
Your dusty old Crypt of yore has had a cleaning! We've swept out the cobwebs, chased out the insects, rearranged some sarcophaguses, and splashed on a fresh coat of paint. Sorry to those who really loved those old blood stains, but it was time!
When you enter the new Crypt you'll be greeted at the top with your current FP and IP amounts, followed by a Today's Featured section. For now the featured section only contains your most current Crypt power, but you can expect this will be added to in the future with new items.
Here's a look at the new Feature section:
Below this the Crypt will begin! All items have been arranged into tiles. Each tile has a category label. Tapping any category will bring you to your sought after items. Once there, you'll discover that when purchasing consumables, you'll no longer be chasing a screen that appears to hate you after every purchase. What a relief!
Here's a look at the new category tiles layout:
For your convenience, your Instant Health (100%) refill is right below these tiles on the main crypt page.
Here's the Instant Health area:
As you can see, the new Crypt is clean, fun, way less scrolling... and it really loves you now. We hope you love it just as much and that your future browsing and purchasing is much, much easier!
Crypt Potions Beta!
Crypt Potions, you say? Indeed! The new Crypt now has available a new category section that's absolutely going to spice up your daily and event gameplay!
Crypt potions are purchasable consumables which will act similar to (and interact with) Relics. Each potion has a direct relic counterpart, so understanding what a potion does is easy. Meanwhile, the potions are, in general, much more powerful than your relics... and become even more powerful when used while you have an active relic.
Once purchased, it's delivered to your Items inventory. Which means with just a swipe of your finger you can pop a potion at your whim and use its benefits for its full duration. You can do this with or without a relic—but the advantage to having an active relic are clear.
Here's just one example:
Imagine you've just discovered the Seven Lock of Samson relic. Now that you it, you're now outputting up to 50% more damage on every attack. During this time, if you purchase and use the Onslaught Potion—which gives you up to 75% more damage—it stacks with your relic. This makes a total of up to 125% more damage on every attack!
Fanning yourself yet?
What's more, your Onslaught Potion will last longer than your relic. So after 10m, when your relic has dissipated, your Onslaught will keep going for another 10m! Of course your stacking will also disappear, but you'll continue to hit 75% more damage on every attack until it runs out.
How to Acquire Potions
When potions launch on December 18, 2023, everyone in the game will receive x1 of each potion type. They'll be in your Items inventory and you'll be free to give them all a whirl and see how you like them!
To acquire more, you'll want to visit the Crypt's Potion Dispensary, where you'll be able to choose any potion you like. Instinct Points prices vary by potion!
⚠ Important: Potions are launching as a BETA! feature. Barring any unforeseen exploits or severe bugs, we expect potions will remain consistently available. However after some time out in the wild to review usage and balance, along with any feedback from you, we may make changes to effects, times, limits, pricing, or more.
Any changes made to potions will effect not only future potions purchased, but also any in your inventory at the time of adjustment. We will, as always, alert you to any changes made to potions during the BETA! period. Beta (aka, public testing phase) has no set time limit. We want to gather data on these items to ensure their balance against daily and event gameplay.
Misc. Adjustments
• Crypt Item Descriptions and Images
We've edited the descriptions on Crypt items across the board, and given several old Crypt items new icons. We hope that the descriptions of these items are now more clear and the images which accompany them feel more at home in your vampire world.
• Modal Dialogs
The days of loosy-goosy dialogs should now be over. Now when you fight or call up your gesture menu, the content within the pop-up should hold it's position.
• Home > Items
Your Items screen has seen important revisions. New section colors, headers, and button labels have been added to help you better differentiate between Crypt Potions and your other Consumable resources. Simply, Crypt Potions will be in an amber-colored section with buttons labeled "Drink" and all other consumables will be in a berry-colored section with buttons labeled "Devour".
Meanwhile the improved Crypt descriptions for classic consumable items should now be carried over into your items page.
• Dynamic Relics Module
Along with the new Crypt's look, we've taken the time to adjust how your relics module looks and works on the Fight screen. Previously your module would show Relics persistently, whether they were active or not, and there was a static background image. Now, your module will be dynamic and we've created a new background that works in tandem with it.
The new dynamics are easy. The relics module will remain empty until you've discovered a Relic or used a Crypt Potion. The moment you have an active item, it will display within the module with your timer running (just as it did before).
It's a simple change, and will mean you'll have more real estate on the fight screen when nothing is active. The trade off, however, is that the more Relic/Potions you have active, the more you'll have to scroll passed to get to your fight-list opponents. Thankfully scrolling is quick with a flick!
We're looking to work more on this in the future to maximize your screen real estate during all relic states. We'll let you know when we get there!
• Profile Scroll Issues On Small-Screen Devices
Our last update introduced new button labels to your Profile page. However it caused some issues on a few smaller screen devices. We've updated them again in an effort to prevent screen movement while scrolling.
• Tablet Devices / Home Banner
We discovered an issue on Tablet views of the game, where the home banner was overlapping the Dark Mark bar below. We've fixed this issue, however the result is the home banner is currently cropped at the bottom. Please note that while we support tablets, you're currently using a mobile-phone specific CSS. We love tablets, and are still working on providing a fully fledged CSS specific to these devices.
